PassportMD Launches Business Card-Sized Personal Medical History CD-ROM for Travelers
For a parent with two children who have Type 1 Diabetes, having 24/7 access to good medical care is imperative. Whenever we travel the first question I ask the hotel concierge is "Where is the closest hospital and do you have a number to call - other than 911 - if we have an emergency?"
Now, thanks to a doctor in Florida, getting quality healthcare on the road just got a lot easier.
This month, a medical records storage device called PassportMD was launched to ensure you or loved ones who may need medical care away from home will be treated more accurately.
This is a product for those with current medical needs or any past medical history.

Acupuncture Oriental Medicine Day: A Time To Celebrate Getting Pregnant & Finding Healing
This Sunday marks America's Acupuncture Oriental Medicine Day. In recognition of the role acupuncture and the "infertility goddesses" have had on my becoming a mother, I write this post as a thank you to them and to all of those involved in my "inconceivable" journey. Having built the leading portal for the biotech and pharmaceutical industry, I am quite familiar with the western world's approach to healing. More than ever, I support it. Am grateful for it. Focus on Children: America's New Family Values
SFGate.com: By Peggy F. Drexler, Ph.D. ...As a research psychologist and a heterosexual, long-married mother, I set out to study a new breed of mothers: lesbian couples raising sons. Could boys prosper through the power of mothers alone? How would these boys develop a moral compass, a positive sense of themselves as male and confident independence without the presence of a father who knows best? ...Good parenting, the new family values show, is not anchored to gender. Parenting is... more

A Fit Baby Equals A Fit Toddler Equals A Fit Child Equals A Fit Teen Equals A Fit Adult

And all with her diaper intact. The cherubic, grinning 2-year-old was one of eight toddlers stretching and puffing their way through yoga poses and aerobic exercises at a recent toddler fitness class at the Seattle Holistic Center. As the country's population of... more

Father's Day Gift Suggestions
Rugged Elegance: San Francisco Aerial Map This is a sweeping generalization, but I believe that it can be relatively difficult to determine what fathers want for gifts. Perhaps it is idle speculation on my part, but I believe that many dads simply don't spend much time thinking about gifts, especially for themselves. Since I am one of those difficult-to-buy-for dads, I feel that I am uniquely qualified to take on this task. As an editor of this publication, I... more

Breastfeeding Fights Obesity
Here's some more good news about breastfeeding. Researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center have conducted the first study to detect the presence of a protein in human milk that may explain the association between breastfeeding and reduced risk of obesity later in life. The protein is adiponectin, which is secreted by fat cells and affects how the body processes sugars and lipids -- fatty substances in the blood. It's been suggested that adiponectin is involved in the metabolic syndrome, which... more

Boston.com: By Samantha Critchell, Associated Press Writer NEW YORK - "No! No! No!" It's the familiar soundtrack of households with babies and toddlers. Many parents find themselves prying toys out of their children's hands and pulling food out of their mouths because whatever the little ones have gotten themselves into poses a safety hazard. But what if the children were already in a safe environment? That would allow parents to encourage playing, eating and exploration without a battle. "The... more

Parents' Example Vital in Children's Eating Habits

Youngsters have innate likes and dislikes and can be incredibly stubborn about what they will and will not eat, but a study of the behavioral aspects of their eating habits showed parental example has a major influence. "Parental consumption was the strongest predictor of children's consumption,"... more
