Sensual Sanctuaries Inspired by Caress & Promoted by Trading Spaces' Doug Wilson
Doug.Wilson.jpg Interior Designer, Doug Wilson

Do You Want To Feel More Sensual? Leave The Sexy Lingerie and Stilettos in the Closet (Except Your 4811s) and Step Inside the Bathroom

Sensuality is more about attitude than attire, according to a recent survey of American men conducted on behalf of Caress, the skincare company known for personal wash products that leave skin silky smooth and soft. More than half (51 percent) of men surveyed said that attitude/personality is the No. 1 characteristic that makes a woman most sensual, followed by soft, smooth, beautiful smelling skin (23 percent).

According to the Caress Sensuality Survey, women also overwhelmingly agree (87 percent) that sensuality begins with the way a woman cares for and carries herself. And the place where it all begins is in the bathroom. Nearly half of women say the bathroom is the place they transform themselves. And eight out of ten say a more sensual environment would make them feel more sensual overall -- a feeling that 67 percent of them would like to achieve.

That's why Caress is teaming up with Doug Wilson of Trading Spaces to help women convert their bathrooms from mere primping stations into Sensual Sanctuaries. To show women just how easy it is to create a Sensual Sanctuary in their own bathroom, Wilson is performing a grand scale transformation of a women's bathroom at New York's Madison Square Garden, one of the nation's busiest public venues. If this massive public bathroom can be transformed into a Sensual Sanctuary, it can easily be done in home bathrooms across the country!

Sensuality seekers can visit CaressSkin.com from now through July 31, 2004 for new tips weekly from Wilson on how to create a Sensual Sanctuary in their own home bathrooms.

You can also enter to win one of five complete bathroom makeovers each worth $20,000.

Caress and Doug Wilson's tips for creating a "Sensual Sanctuary":

-- Lighten up: Set a softer, more relaxing mood in the bathroom by softening bathroom lighting. Try switching bulbs to less wattage or install a dimmer that can be adjusted for a sensual effect.

-- Color your world: The most dramatic way to refresh, renew and revive a room -- and your spirit -- is to add color. Painting your walls is one way to introduce color, or you can simply add colored accents such as colored hand towels, soaps, rugs and even framed artwork.

-- "Scents" Sensuality: Enhance your mood by arousing your sense of smell. Add fragrant flowers, candles, oils and scented bath products (body washes and soaps) to stimulate or relax the senses and create a sensual environment where you can pamper yourself.

-- Get in "touch" with your sensuality: According to the Caress Sensuality Survey, more than two-thirds (65 percent) of men and women agree that touch is the most sensual sense. To achieve sensuous skin, fill your sensual sanctuary with bath products (body washes and soaps), like Caress, that leave skin silky smooth and soft to the touch. Hang a shower caddy in your shower to make products easily accessible and to avoid clutter.

-- Surround yourself in softness: Nothing feels better after a steamy bath or shower than wrapping your silky smooth skin in soft towels (100% cotton) and a luxurious robe. Add hooks in your bathroom to hang your favorite robe and place plush rugs on the bathroom floor to cushion your step.

More from the Caress Sensuality Survey

From the Bedroom to the Boardroom... Sensuality Matters. Nearly 75 percent of women think that if they felt sensual more often, they would have a better sex life and 21 percent say that increased sensuality would also increase their confidence in business.

What women do for Sensuality. Eighty-seven percent of women think that the way a women cares for and carries herself makes her sensual, so its no surprise that 83 percent of women use good smelling skin products to make themselves feel more sensual and over 90 percent make sure to keep these products stocked in their bathrooms.

With Age Comes... Sensuality? Maybe. Maybe not. According to the Caress Sensuality Survey, as women get older the less likely they are to want to feel more sensual. Eight-one percent of women ages 18 to 24 say they would like to feel more sensual compared to 49 percent of those ages 45 to 54. Ironically, younger men are more likely to think their spouse/significant other is extremely sensual (52 percent: ages 18 to 24 vs. 31 percent: ages 45 to 54).

Some Things Are Best Left A Mystery. While 64 percent of men ages 18 to 24 say they would like a "sneak peak" into their spouse's / significant other's primping routines, only 45 percent of men ages 45 to 54 would choose to look behind the bathroom doors.

Impulse Research Corporation conducted the online survey with a random sample of 1,782 men and women ages 18-54 across the country-all members of the CyberPlus(TM) Advisory Panel. The Advisory Panel has been carefully selected to closely match US population demographics. Research was conducted in April 2004. The overall sampling error for this survey is +/- 2.5% at the 95% level of confidence.
