Asilomar Conference Grounds, a historic beachfront retreat on the Monterey peninsula, has announced a special midweek $69 leisure room rate from Nov. 30 to Dec. 25.
The special $69 room rate is valid Sunday-Thursday upon space availability and includes a full country-style breakfast each morning. Leisure rates include two people per room who are not attending a group function at Asilomar. Children ages 3-12 stay for a nominal $5.63 extra in their parent's room.
Guests can take a sunset stroll along the beachfront boardwalk, a breezy bike ride along the coast or play a friendly game of horseshoes, volleyball, ping pong or pocket billiards in the social hall.
Nearby visitor attractions include the charming downtown Pacific Grove shops, Natural History Museum, Monterey Bay Aquarium, the famed 17-Mile Drive and Lover's Point (a perfect beachfront location to eye playful sea otters and sea lions). Guests may also opt to take a self-guided tour of the natural forest, the protected sand dunes or the historical architecture designed by California's first woman architect, Julia Morgan.
For reservations, call Asilomar at 831.642.4242 or visit online at Asilomar.com. Leisure room reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance.
Historic Guest Rooms
Historic rooms are located in buildings that were designed by architect Julia Morgan and built between 1913 and 1928. These rooms have hardwood floors, some with wood-paneled walls as well. All of the historic lodging buildings have a common living room, with a fireplace, for lounging and reading. Historic accommodations include a shower and bathroom in each room. Size and quantity of beds vary from one single bed to two double beds.
Where Post Ranch in Big Sur should be reserved for just the two of you, Asilomar is a great place for an escape with the kids. Of course, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a must, if you decide to head south to Carmel or the Monterey Peninsula.
